One plane, four trains, 6 busses, and 48 hours later, we finally arrived at ALTS Bandai Resort around midnight. Since I had missed the practice day for the slopestyle course, I woke up and went straight into my qualifying runs, where I competed with about 50 other girls. I made it through to the next round and then had two perfect practice runs through the course before the semi- finals. Too bad I didn’t ride as well during the contest! I didn’t make it to finals so I had the next few days to just hang out and enjoy myself!

A boardslide is the second progressive step in hitting rails or boxes on your snowboard. The first step is to 50/50 the rail, which is simply sliding the feature parallel. A boardslide will allow you to progress into sliding the rail backwards or spinning. When I was learning how to boardslide I was very intimidated by doing an ollie into a boardslide. I learned the wrong way which was doing an ollie onto the box 50/50 then rotating my body to make my board perpendicular to the box. With my ‘How To Boardslide’, I will hopefully teach you the right way… and the steezy way, since that is the most important part of snowboarding, right?

As I write this blog I am the number one female mogul skier in the world. I have never had this honor and I am hannahlarge.jpgenjoying it thoroughly. I earned this current title by winning the first world cup in France, getting third in Quebec, and first and second at two competitions in Utah. I am in Vancouver now for the Olympic test event and am hoping to continue my with consistent results. As a member of the US Freestyle team, I wear a uniform at all competitions and training camps, but in my personal training I am free to express my own style. With five weeks off over the holidays I had ample opportunity to sport my new Nikita outfit.

Not only was Nomis started by pro snowboarder Simon Chamberlain, and his two brothers, Andre and Matt, but their outerwear includes design collaboration from three of the best designers in the snow industry – Trent Bush, Jordan Grace and Jeremy Osmond. And, if you’re wondering what the heck a ‘Nomis’ is? It’s Simon spelled backwards, as in Simon Chamberlain…clever, huh? I was surprised myself. The brand is based around Simon’s vision of creating outerwear that reflects street style. And Nomis has it dialed.

The ollie is the most important, basic and fundamental trick in snowboarding, or skateboarding. Snowboarding without knowing how to ollie is, well, not really snowboarding because it’s the foundation that all other tricks are based on. Unfortunately, I spent my first 5-6 years snowboarding doing it completely wrong. See here’s the thing, doing an ollie is not simply jumping up and down on your snowboard (I know, I was shocked too). To properly perform an ollie, you take advantage of your snowboard and use that to propel you higher than you could hope to jump alone. Having a solid ollie will take you anywhere you want to go with your snowboard – jumps, big spins, urban on rails, spinning on rails – the possibilities are endless.

Not only has she been repping for over 10 plus years but she is at the top of her game while juggling being a mom and pregnant with number two. She has been a sales rep for Dragon for 9 years and is very knowledgeable of the goggle and sunglass world. I asked her to give me tips on fitting goggles and what to look for when making your choice in the vast world of eye protection. In addition, she gave me her favorite style, why Dragon loves Leanne Pelosi and one of the many mantras Dragon boasts to set them apart from the competition. Thanks, Denise, for your support of of the ahlivv team!

Most of us spend most of our ski/snowboard budget on our outerwear. But, layering is such a key part of keeping warm in the cold and wind. Quality layers will make the most of your outerwear, and layering with wicking systems will soak up sweat, keep out moisture and allow breathability, making the job of your outerwear easier.
So, layer up to optimize your outerwear…and your time on the mountain! Check out layering options and find the right pieces for you.
