Olympic snowboarder Kelly Clark once again reinforced her place in women’s snowboarding yesterday, taking first in the final stop of the Grand Prix at Killington Resort in Vermont. Clark’s winning run was loaded with a frontside air, backside five, frontside five, backside air, frontside seven, and cab seven.

Canadian mogul skiers Jennifer Heil and Alexandre Bilodeau made the most of their home-course advantage Saturday as they grabbed World Cup wins at Cypress Mountain, B.C. The rivalry between American Hannah Kearney and Heil gained more steam at the event as judges gave Heil the win over Kearney for the second week in a row. Kearney, who has yet to miss a podium this season, retains her 45-point lead in the points race, mid-way through the season. Both women have two victories apiece.

I checked out the riders poll awards during the SIA tradeshow in Vegas. My low energy level and Vegas hangover mysteriously disapperared as soon as I walked into the event. The crowd had alot of energy and the vibes were so good! Travis Rice was the man of the night.

Torah Bright took the gold with authority at the Women’s SuperPipe, in an eventful night for women’s snowboarders. Torah killed it on her last run with a backside 360 to switchback 720. She followed with a big McTwist and another 720 to seal the deal.

Last Thursday was a very sad day at Blackcomb Mountain. Two skiers were killed on the mountain, both on runs that had been blocked off due to high avalanche threat. The unfortunate and tragic deaths have probed Whistler/Blackcomb Resort to adopt a Zero Tolerance Policy on skiers and riders found out of bounds. Anyone found in blocked off areas will have their lift tickets pulled immediately. It’s likely that other ski areas in North America will follow suit.
