Spring Trends…Making Our Lives Easier

Ashley Masin

This seasons trend make me think, my closet has all it needs…except (play a round of mad libs here).  The exceptions begin with the trends I am all about: boyfriend looks (love loose tees and blazers), big jewelry (not layering until you can’t hold your head up, just antique large!) and summer dresses (easily understood).  Now the challenge is making the look to work!…And, ladies, you will agree, this is an art you must master!

I love the thought of throwing on my man’s hoodie or tee for obvious reasons: warmth, comfort, he’s out of town and I need his smell to fall asleep and, apparently, style!  The look to me says comfort and edge.  If those are two words you recognize in your own style, this may be your ‘meant-to-be’ look!   Who does not want to throw on their old jeans, color or fade not a question, a comfy tee and a jacket?  Check out our LOOKBOOK it’s all about that comfort layering!  But, you can always add a touch of ‘girlie-ness’ and pair your oversized hoodie with some legging or skinny jeans.  They will offset the oversized top and show off your fabulous legs.  I will give it to the fashion gods, sometimes they do make being female somewhat easier!
My reasoning for big jewelry, after of course ‘cause I love it’, was always, well I have long fingers so I need big rings.  I am happy to say that reasoning has been shelved more recently.   Big, antique, beaded, wired, gaudy, feathered, winged, wrapped, layered jewelry is beautiful.  The whole layering aspect, it’s like a no-thought-required fashion move.  Blind fold self.  Reach into jewelry box. Pick several pieces.  Wear.  Some judgment calls may be required; ask mother, not man.  Though I know all trends come and go, the big jewelry, I love it and I hope it sticks around!
Lastly, the summer dress.  It took me a minute for the dress phenomenon to work with me on its first reappearance a year or two ago.  No matter how many times my mother told me to show off my legs in a dress, all I thought was uncomfortable-girlie-girl.  I had enough ‘dress’-dress code years in my life as a private school girl too!  Well the 180 happened with a last season Billabong dress that was 100% cotton, flattering with tightening under the bust and truly an awesome dress.  I wore and will wear it anywhere, with anything and never feel uncomfortable or too girlie, though I do not think being girlie is off! Our spring dresses are the epitome of comfort!  Don’t miss this easy trend, no socks or pants required!

So girls, don’t forget that the name of the game this season is effortless style.  And, after battling years of stilletto heels, skin tight clothing and tight perms, I’m welcoming this era with open arms.

Enjoy and happy styling!

Ashley
