Erin called in her favorite lady shredders for a day of riding and a fun shoot. She gave each girl a different outfit to show off on the mountain for a full day of snowboarding. We spent all day hiking the park and taking fun photos! I don’t think I have ever gone snowboarding with so many girls.

But first, a side note.  As more and more of my teammates switch to iphones, I have develeped a pet peeve.  The fart application on the iphone drives me nuts.  I am now surrounded by artificial fart noises at dinnner, in the car and on the airplanes. Despite all of these external negatives, I had a much better day of training . The moisture packed the snow down, creating deeper and firmer moguls, and I successfully made it down the 250 meter course more than once.

Today was the first of two days of training before the World Cup on Friday in Norway. The mogul course was open from 1-3:30 in the afternoon so I had breakfast and enjoyed several cups of coffee while I searched for cheap flights to France in March. That is the last event of the year and due to the economic troubles the freestyle team has no funding. After the confusing internet search, I did 45 minutes of yoga in my room and got ready to head up to the mountain.

The 2009 Nikita Chickita will close in the usual spirits, with awards and a party at Lakanuki Bar in the Village.  Dance the night away with the ladies of Nikita!

Nikita Chickita USA 2009 is nearly here! In it’s fifth year, it is still one of the only all-girls amateur inclusive events in the world, a popular contest and a super fun day. Chickita is open to all female snowboarders of all ages and abilities. The slopestyle competition will be taking place in Mammoth’s Unbound South Park on Saturday, February 21st. The forecast is looking good and we hope to have Mother Nature on our side again this year with great snow and sunshine for the contest.

Girls, girls, girls…..The Nikita Snowboard Clip Contest is well under way so get in on the action. There’s still time to make the most of the winter and the snowy future forecasts by getting some new footage together and sending it to Nikita. We want to see you rock your most stylin’ moves which will be posted on Nikita’s YouTube contest site and Vimeo channel.

We ended a successful trip to Sweden with a traditional meal of beef and reindeer meat that we cooked on a hot, salted stones at our table. It was served with various delicious sauces and one disgustingly sweet one. I am unaccustomed to the taste of melted marshmallows with my protein, and it did not agree with my taste buds. I enjoyed this meal with my three coaches and ten team mates, as well as the family that owned the restaurant. The father had been a member of the Swedish mogul team with one of our coaches so he hooked us up with the free meal that ended with chocolate coffee mousse served with figs.

So many good looking boards for the 2009 -2010 season, but so little time to try them all! Everything I rode was really good. I was immediately fixated with my first ride of the day, the GNU B-Street Snowboard. Shortly after my fun board test I was gently reminded by one of the GNU girls that this board is amazing for jibbing, but not so amazing on jumps…I wonder if I can figure out a way to justify 2 park boards next season?!

A boardslide is the second progressive step in hitting rails or boxes on your snowboard. The first step is to 50/50 the rail, which is simply sliding the feature parallel. A boardslide will allow you to progress into sliding the rail backwards or spinning. When I was learning how to boardslide I was very intimidated by doing an ollie into a boardslide. I learned the wrong way which was doing an ollie onto the box 50/50 then rotating my body to make my board perpendicular to the box. Canadian mogul skiers Jennifer Heil and Alexandre Bilodeau made the most of their home-course advantage Saturday as they grabbed World Cup wins at Cypress Mountain, B.C. The rivalry between American Hannah Kearney and Heil gained more steam at the event as judges gave Heil the win over Kearney for the second week in a row. Kearney, who has yet to miss a podium this season, retains her 45-point lead in the points race, mid-way through the season. Both women have two victories apiece.

Since it was the most significant snowfall of the year, the resorts were packed. So, D and a few friends decided to take turns shuttling Loveland Pass with their very cute pups. Barring some cold waits at the bottom of Loveland Pass, and some face shots (aren’t those the worst!), the trip was well worth it.

As I write this blog I am the number one female mogul skier in the world. I have never had this honor and I am hannahlarge.jpgenjoying it thoroughly. I earned this current title by winning the first world cup in France, getting third in Quebec, and first and second at two competitions in Utah. I am in Vancouver now for the Olympic test event and am hoping to continue my with consistent results. As a member of the US Freestyle team, I wear a uniform at all competitions and training camps, but in my personal training I am free to express my own style. With five weeks off over the holidays I had ample opportunity to sport my new Nikita outfit.

The SIA Snowsports Tradeshow is the one time every year when athletes, sales reps, marketing teams and the heavy hitters of the industry get together to plan for next snow season. It is one trade show that everyone is psyched to be at, and for industry people, it’s like a reunion each year.

Hannah Kearney took her second victory on the season last Thursday at Deer Valley. She started the day tied for first in the World Cup Moguls with Jennifer Heil of Canada.
