Transworld Snowboarding Riders Poll Awards

I checked out the riders poll awards during the SIA tradeshow in Vegas. My low energy level and Vegas hangover mysteriously disapperared as soon as I walked into the event. The crowd had alot of energy and the vibes were so good! Travis Rice was the man of the night.

ahlivv Am Team Footie

The ahlivv shop sponsors amateur riders D Damra and Claire Hewitt-Demeyer, two sick snowboarders based out of Summit County in Colorado. We’re super stoked to support these two girls as they pursue their passion, and progress action sports for women.

Yoga for Skiing and Snowboarding

Growing up in California meant we played at the beach or parks all year long until winter came. Once the snow would stick we would head up to Mammoth Mountain as a family to have some fun on the snow. Every morning at the sound of the avalanche team booming the cannons, my dad religiously would wake us up for pre-mountain stretching. Begrudgingly, we would shuffle to the living room with our eyes half open never understanding the idea behind his exercises. Now, as an adult and a yoga instructor I can appreciate his efforts and can understand the rationale behind them. Unbeknownst to us my dad was doing just what we needed; our muscles were stretched and balanced out for a day of skiing.

Torah Bright Takes Gold at the X Games

Torah Bright took the gold with authority at the Women’s SuperPipe, in an eventful night for women’s snowboarders. Torah killed it on her last run with a backside 360 to switchback 720. She followed with a big McTwist and another 720 to seal the deal.

Burke Soars to Ski Superpipe Three-Peat in Aspen | AspenTimes.com

ASPEN — Sarah Burke has quite a flare for the dramatic.
Before 2007’s Winter X Games ski superpipe final, she broke her nose in a practice-run fall. One year later, Burke hit the deck on an attempted 900 on her first of two runs, one ski fell off and she fell more than 15 feet to [...]

Sarah Burke – ahlivv Girl Takes 3rd Gold at the X Games

Sarah Burke is the “it” girl at the X Games, competing in both the SuperPipe and Slopestyle. And with her 3rd consequetive gold in Superpipe, its fair to say she reigns the halfpipe as queen. Sarah is taking skiing to the next level with her amplitude and stylish, clean tricks. She, along with Jen and Jess and so many others – including Roz Groenwoud and Viriginie Faivre are proving that record setting halfpipes are no match for ahlivv girls and those with their spirit! How To: Ollie

The ollie is the most important, basic and fundamental trick in snowboarding, or skateboarding. Snowboarding without knowing how to ollie is, well, not really snowboarding because it’s the foundation that all other tricks are based on. Unfortunately, I spent my first 5-6 years snowboarding doing it completely wrong. See here’s the thing, doing an ollie is not simply jumping up and down on your snowboard (I know, I was shocked too). To properly perform an ollie, you take advantage of your snowboard and use that to propel you higher than you could hope to jump alone. Having a solid ollie will take you anywhere you want to go with your snowboard – jumps, big spins, urban on rails, spinning on rails – the possibilities are endless.

X Games Update with Sarah Burke

I caught up with Sarah today in between her practice sessions, press conferences and designing her own Playstation Level. Yes, it’s safe to say that the Female Skier of the Year, Espy winner and two time X Games gold medalist Sarah Burke is one busy girl! But don’t be mistaken, all her extracurriculars have not gotten in the way of her focus on the mountain.

Resolutions: Status Update

I mean, even though I promised myself six solid workouts a week, four is pretty good, right? ahlivv owner and my new sanity keeper, Courtney, reminded me of a great quote: “Resolutions are made to be broken”, and although that may sound like a way out, it’s really only because we set unrealistic goals. So, if we could figure out how to better plan our attack of the new year, we could prove this deliciously fun quote wrong!

How To: Ski Moguls

Hannah Kearney’s Guide to Skiing the Bumps
I know that skiing the moguls may be intimidating at first, but the sooner you try them, the sooner you will have a new favorite run on the mountain.  I don’t actually remember learning to ski moguls because I was 2 at the beginning of my skiing career and [...]

How to: Get Organized in 2009

What does getting ‘organized’ mean to you? What it means to most is totally different! From a college student, single female who works a ton, single mother who works a ton, recent newly wed, student again mother, girl who is always thinking of everyone else but themselves, job hunting female…the list goes on, obviously…which is [...]

Tip of the Week: Don’t Compromise Style For Trends

Instead of trying to be up on every trend, or change your entire look to keep up with the changing trends, just incorporate a few elements into your wardrobe. Adding your own personal touch will keep in unique and personal, and avoid the ‘walking trend’ disaster. Plus, that’s what style is; putting your own spin on what’s out there.

BOTTOM LINE: BE YOU!

Confessions of a Shopaholic Hits the Big Screen

As I sat in the movie theatre on Christmas Day waiting for Marley and Me to start (my husband and I read the book, and had the date on our calendar for months), I discovered that Confessions of a Shopaholic was being made into a movie. I must admit, it was all I could do [...]

Vail, Colorado is America’s biggest ski resort community. For some, like myself, it seems bigger than life! With 5,289 acres, 193 trails and 32 chairlifts, this mountain is a cloud nine to many! If the size doesn’t do it for you, try the visitor count; nearly 20,000 on a busy day! That number makes up [...]

The Fire Behind Dragon: A Goggle Fit Guide

I had the chance today to talk to a veteran rep here in the Rockies, Denise Arnette. Not only has she been repping for over 10 plus years but she is at the top of her game while juggling being a mom and pregnant with number two. She has been a sales rep for Dragon for 9 years and is very knowledgeable of the goggle and sunglass world. I asked her to give me tips on fitting goggles and what to look for when making your choice in the vast world of eye protection. In addition, she gave me her favorite style, why Dragon loves Leanne Pelosi and one of the many mantras Dragon boasts to set them apart from the competition. Thanks, Denise, for your support of of the ahlivv team!

Sarah’s busy, what can we [...]

For an ahlivv girl, going green is much more than a fleeting trend.  It is a crucial issue that has to be addressed.  Each of us needs to make it a priority and take steps toward an eco-friendly lifestyle, if we want to continue enjoying the action sports we love.  Skiing, snowboarding and surfing are [...]

Avalanche Deaths Probe New Rules at Whistler/Blackcomb

Last Thursday was a very sad day at Blackcomb Mountain. Two skiers were killed on the mountain, both on runs that had been blocked off due to high avalanche threat. The unfortunate and tragic deaths have probed Whistler/Blackcomb Resort to adopt a Zero Tolerance Policy on skiers and riders found out of bounds. Anyone found in blocked off areas will have their lift tickets pulled immediately. It’s likely that other ski areas in North America will follow suit.

Tip of the Week: Invest in Layers

Most of us spend most of our ski/snowboard budget on our outerwear. But, layering is such a key part of keeping warm in the cold and wind. Quality layers will make the most of your outerwear, and layering with wicking systems will soak up sweat, keep out moisture and allow breathability, making the job of your outerwear easier.

So, layer up to optimize your outerwear…and your time on the mountain! Check out layering options and find the right pieces for you.
